PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) is aggressively ramping up its household-based emission reduction campaign by forging a strategic partnership with the Muria Berseri Waste Bank in Kudus, Central Java. This collaboration marks the latest expansion of the bank's pioneering "Bayar Angsuranmu dengan Sampahmu" (Pay Your Mortgage with Your Waste) program, a circular economy initiative engineered to monetize household waste while driving local environmental sustainability.
Having financed millions of residential properties across Indonesia, BTN is uniquely positioned to leverage its network to catalyze eco-friendly behavioral changes directly from the household level. Operating on the firm conviction that carbon emission reduction begins at home, the financial institution aims to empower local communities by transforming routine waste separation into a highly lucrative enterprise that simultaneously safeguards the ecosystem.
Under this cooperative framework, residents can actively participate in ecological preservation by depositing various inorganic materials, including plastics, cardboard, aluminum, iron, and glass. The collected waste is then converted into direct financial value and credited straight into the participants' BTN bank accounts. The eco-program has already yielded substantial results; as of March 2026, the initiative has successfully diverted more than 1,261 kilograms of waste across 21 housing clusters, with comprehensive plans underway to scale the operation across 15 cities spanning eight provinces.
Ultimately, this green rewards system deepens BTN's community integration by seamlessly embedding banking services into the daily routines and lifestyles of its customers. The corporate strategy focuses on ensuring that the bank's presence extends far beyond providing initial housing finance, actively nurturing new, sustainable habits that deliver tangible economic dividends while securing long-term environmental resilience for the nation.
