JAKARTA – In line with its aspiration to become the community’s preferred transactional bank, PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) continues to expand access to banking and financial services for all through digital innovation.
Most recently, BTN has introduced digital donation services in mosques across Indonesia via the QRIS system and is encouraging mosque administrators to benefit from digital transactions through the Bale by BTN Super App. This initiative was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dewan Masjid Indonesia (DMI) and BTN in Jakarta on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
BTN SEVP of Digital Business Thomas Wahyudi stated that BTN is committed to promoting financial inclusion for all segments of society. Through this partnership with DMI, BTN aims to empower congregations and mosque administrators.
“BTN is committed to delivering inclusive financial solutions and creating opportunities for everyone to empower themselves and their families. Through this collaboration, mosque administrators can access various BTN banking products and services simply via the Bale by BTN Super App. We hope this will make personal financial management and mosque administration more efficient and well-organized,” Thomas said in a written statement on Thursday (May 22).
Digital Donations and Financial Empowerment
Thomas explained that the partnership includes several products and services:
“This agency program can provide additional income for mosque administrators,” Thomas added.
As a bank with strong expertise in housing finance, BTN also provides access to home ownership loans (KPR), including subsidized housing schemes, for mosque administrators. This initiative aims to help mosque caretakers—many of whom fall into the informal worker segment—own decent, safe, comfortable, and affordable homes.
Strengthening the Mosque’s Economic Role
On the same occasion, DMI Chairman Jusuf Kalla emphasized the importance of maximizing the role of mosques in advancing the economic welfare of the Muslim community. Through this partnership, mosques across Indonesia are expected to become centers of economic empowerment.
In the initial phase, BTN targets approximately 50,000 mosques per year to benefit from the digital collaboration with DMI.
As of the end of the first quarter of 2025, the Bale by BTN Super App has reached 2.4 million users, with total transactions amounting to Rp22.3 trillion. BTN remains optimistic that by the end of 2025, Bale by BTN users will grow to between 3.6 million and 4 million.
“This financial solution partnership with DMI aligns with BTN’s strategy to strengthen low-cost and sustainable funding through digital transactions starting this year. The Bale by BTN Super App offers competitive transactional features and services without requiring users to switch between applications,” Thomas concluded.
