Jakarta, June 29, 2025 – The prestigious BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2025 (BTN JAKIM) was successfully held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, attracting 31,000 runners across three race categories:
President Director of PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN), Nixon LP Napitupulu, stated that the success of BTN JAKIM 2025 was made possible through strong collaboration and full support from the Jakarta Provincial Government, alongside key stakeholders such as Polda Metro Jaya, Kodam Jaya, and the public.
“This is extraordinary. The spectators in Jakarta were incredible in helping position the city as a sports tourism destination. We are deeply grateful to the people of Jakarta and all stakeholders for supporting the success of BTN JAKIM 2025. The implementation of the 4S concept—Sterile, Secure, Safety, and Smooth—ran very well. With 31,000 participants, this sets a record as one of the largest running events. We hope to continue supporting BTN JAKIM next year,” Nixon said at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium area.
He also thanked the enthusiastic participants from both Indonesia and abroad, noting the vibrant sporting spirit fueled by cheering guides along the race route up to the finish line.
Strong Government Support and Economic Impact
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that the Provincial Government fully supported the event, recognizing Jakarta’s potential as a global sports tourism destination.
“We want this marathon to run successfully with extraordinary enthusiasm. Unexpectedly, hotel occupancy along the race route was fully booked, and MSMEs thrived. With more than 31,600 runners from 51 countries, the event was a success. I hope next year it can reach an even higher level,” said the Governor.
Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno added that after the success of BTN JAKIM 2025, the city aims to increase participation to 40,000 runners in 2026 and 50,000 runners in 2027, coinciding with Jakarta’s 500th anniversary.
“This is extraordinary—31,000 runners have never happened before. Next year, we should aim for 50,000. This shows sports in Jakarta are becoming more vibrant, encouraging healthier lifestyles. On behalf of the Provincial Government, we thank BTN for organizing this event,” he said.
World-Class Marathon Standard
The race officially started with a flag-off at Silang Barat Monas at 4:00 a.m. WIB and concluded inside the Main Stadium of Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK), offering a unique finish experience for participants.
Held as part of Jakarta’s 498th Anniversary celebrations, BTN JAKIM 2025 has earned recognition from World Athletics with the designation of a World Athletics Label Road Race, placing it among prestigious international marathon events.
With its 4S concept (Sterile, Secure, Safety, Smooth), the event ensured international-standard race management, including road closures, traffic diversions, and comprehensive runner facilities throughout the route. Organizers are now aiming to elevate the event to Platinum Label status under World Athletics’ classification.
“We want this event to reach Platinum level. Prize money should be increased next year, and improvements can still be made at the start line. Security was already strong, with barricades along the entire route. People are getting used to the Jakarta Marathon,” Nixon added.
Boosting Tourism and MSMEs
BTN, the Jakarta Provincial Government, and IM Road Runner as organizer hope the event continues promoting Jakarta as a global sports tourism destination.
“Hotels along the race route were fully booked because runners brought family and friends. Participants came not only from Jakarta but also from other regions and abroad. Their presence stimulates economic activity across culinary spots, shopping centers, tourism sites, and entertainment venues,” Nixon explained.
Participants competed for a total prize pool of Rp3 billion, including a grand prize of a house for an Indonesian runner who breaks the marathon record. This prize structure—one of the largest in Southeast Asia—is expected to motivate running enthusiasts and elevate Indonesia’s competitive running standards.
