PT Bank Syariah Nasional (BSN) was officially launched on Thursday, October 2, 2025, following the approval of its operational license by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The launch marks the culmination of the spin-off process of the Sharia Business Unit (UUS) of PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN), representing a major step in strengthening Indonesia’s sharia financial ecosystem.
The establishment of BSN forms part of BTN’s broader transformation strategy to create an independent, inclusive, and competitive Islamic commercial bank. This initiative aligns with Law No. 4 of 2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK) and OJK Regulation No. 12 of 2023 concerning the implementation of sharia unit spin-offs.
During the launch, BTN’s management emphasized that the name “Bank Syariah Nasional” embodies a vision of becoming a truly national Islamic financial institution serving all segments of Indonesian society. The word “National” signifies broad reach and inclusivity, while “Syariah” underscores the bank’s unwavering commitment to operating under Islamic values that promote justice, blessings, and sustainability.
BSN also unveiled a new corporate identity and logo, blending modern aesthetics with deep symbolic meaning. The lowercase lettering “bsn” reflects humility and approachability, while the five-pointed star symbolizes the bank’s five core values: Justice, Blessing, Diversity, Sustainability, and Innovation. These values guide BSN’s mission to uphold integrity, foster innovation, and create long-term benefits for society through sharia-compliant financial services.
The establishment of BSN represents more than just regulatory compliance — it marks a strategic milestone for BTN in advancing sharia banking within Indonesia’s financial landscape. By launching BSN, BTN strengthens its commitment to expanding access to Islamic finance, supporting national housing development, and contributing to a more inclusive and equitable economy.
