PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk, in strategic partnership with the LindungiHutan Foundation, has reinforced its commitment to environmental stewardship with high-impact coastal restoration initiatives across Indonesia. Expanding its customer-driven sustainability efforts into 2026, the program successfully planted thousands of Rhizophora mangrove saplings across two critical coastal ecosystems: Sukawali Village in Tangerang Regency, Banten, and Benoa Bay in Badung Regency, Bali.
Executed simultaneously on April 25, 2026, the restoration drive deployed 1,500 mangrove saplings in Sukawali and 714 in Benoa Bay. Beyond the initial planting phase, recent ecological monitoring revealed an outstanding milestone: all trees planted under the 2026 campaign achieved a 100 percent survival rate. This achievement ensures that thousands of young mangroves are now firmly rooted and actively fortifying vulnerable shorelines.
This green initiative was driven directly by customer participation through the Balé Poin Peduli Lingkungan by BTN program. Through this innovative loyalty framework, accumulated banking reward points were converted into tangible, on-the-ground ecological action.
Building upon the momentum established during its inaugural phase in 2025—which planted 1,014 mangroves along Mangunharjo Beach in Semarang, Central Java—the program's cumulative impact has reached 3,228 mangrove trees spanning multiple coastal sites in Indonesia.
The selection of the Rhizophora mangrove species plays a vital ecological role. Serving as the ultimate natural coastal defense, these trees effectively mitigate shoreline erosion, buffer high waves, and create vital nursery habitats for marine life. Furthermore, mangroves serve as high-capacity carbon sinks that capture atmospheric carbon dioxide and store it in soil, representing a premier nature-based solution to combat global climate change.
Through this ongoing synergy between BTN, LindungiHutan, and banking customers, everyday financial transactions are transcending traditional utility—delivering monetary value while leaving behind a lasting ecological legacy for Indonesia’s coastlines.
