Commemorating World Mangrove Day, PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk reinforced its environmental commitment by planting 2,500 mangrove seedlings on Pramuka Island, Kepulauan Seribu. This green initiative forms part of the bank’s Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, aimed at constructing natural defense barriers against coastal erosion and global warming.
Executed on Sunday (26/7/2026), the ecological initiative utilized the cluster method to optimize seedling survival and growth rates in dynamic coastal zones. The selected species, Rhizophora stylosa and Rhizophora mucronata, are premier coastal vegetation renowned for absorbing blue carbon while mitigating climate change impacts.
Pramuka Island was selected as the focal point for rehabilitation due to its role as a residential and economic hub for the Kepulauan Seribu region, which remains highly vulnerable to shoreline erosion and rising sea levels. Beyond serving as an erosion shield, this green belt is designed to become a vital marine habitat, safeguarding the supply chain and livelihoods of local fishermen.
To ensure long-term sustainability, BTN partnered with local environmental community groups for post-planting care and monitoring. This community-driven collaboration is key to ensuring ecosystem restoration extends far beyond the initial planting, delivering ongoing environmental benefits while unlocking new economic opportunities through ecotourism development.
