JAKARTA — PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) has cemented its regional leadership by securing two prestigious honors at the ASEAN Risk Awards 2026. The state-owned lender captured both the ASEAN Risk Champion Award (Category 2) and the Risk Culture Award, marking international recognition for its robust, adaptive, and sustainable risk management transformation.
BTN Risk Management Director Setiyo Wibowo emphasized that the accolade validates the bank's formidable governance and risk management foundation. Amid escalating global risk complexities—ranging from macroeconomic uncertainty and financial market volatility to rapid digitalization and climate change—BTN ensures every business decision meticulously balances growth, asset quality, capital adequacy, liquidity, and long-term sustainability. In his view, risk management within BTN has transcended its traditional supervisory role to become a core strategic enabler driving healthy, resilient expansion.
Setiyo further highlighted the vital role of embedding a deep-seated risk culture across all organizational levels as the bedrock of sustainable growth. Strong risk awareness equips the workforce to adapt swiftly to dynamic industry headwinds. This ethos is backed by a structured risk transformation roadmap executed over recent years, encompassing the modernization of credit processes via a Loan Factory system, enhanced enterprise risk management, end-to-end digital risk monitoring, advanced data analytics, and the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into the corporate framework.
The tangible impact of this fortified risk framework is reflected in the bank's stellar financial performance. In the first half of 2026 (H1/2026), BTN recorded a remarkable 40.8 percent year-on-year surge in consolidated net profit to IDR 2.40 trillion, up from IDR 1.70 trillion in the corresponding period last year. Profitability was anchored by a 13.2 percent expansion in loans and financing to IDR 418.11 trillion, while total assets grew 8.5 percent to IDR 545.16 trillion.
Concurrently, rigorous risk discipline drove significant improvements in asset quality, pulling the Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio down from 3.30 percent to 2.99 percent. Third-Party Funds (DPK) also expanded by 6.5 percent to IDR 398.73 trillion, signaling robust public trust in the bank's core fundamentals.
Looking ahead under the stewardship of Danantara Indonesia as BTN evolves into a "bank beyond mortgage," Setiyo affirmed the bank’s commitment to building forward-looking risk capabilities powered by digital technology, data governance, and artificial intelligence. He expressed confidence that these accolades will inspire BTN to continuously strengthen its standing as a trusted, competitive regional financial institution while advancing the National Housing Program and other strategic government priorities.
